Every day is Election Day, viewers vote with their remotes: Ravish Kumar

Bringing back Puneeth Rajkumar as the quiz master on the extremely popular KBC format named Kannadada Kotyadipathi, Colors Kannada aims to strengthen their weekend FPC.

Premiering on Saturday June 22, Kannadada Kotyadipathi will air every Saturday and Sunday at 8:00pm on Colors Kannada and anytime on the network’s OTT platform VOOT.

The channel has also partnered with JIO to bring alive the JIO Play along to increase the interactivity.

Kannadada Kotyadhipathi is produced by Studio Next, the production house of Sony Pictures Networks. It holds the license of the format, for all Indian languages and has produced more than 1,800 episodes of the show across nine languages.

Speaking on the pool of contestants and how the show is rewarding for the channel, Ravish Kumar Head, Regional Entertainment Viacom18 said, “We’ve done auditions in more than five cities, we have a fantastic pool of people who come from all walks of life, I’m not going to tell you much as you have to watch the episodes. But the show at the end of the day is about a level playing field. It’s about how knowledge can get you ahead in life. These are real people, these are real emotions, the money is real. And there’s a lot that people can do with it.”

“So what appeals to us from a format perspective is this sincerity, this desire to move ahead in life. And it’s always what comes through is the thought you have for somebody else, it is seldom for yourself. So I think the emotions that come out in the show, in addition to how people from the most unexpected sort of, you know, walks of life, are using knowledge. I think that is very rewarding as a format.”

On the Kannada market, Kumar said, “Kannada is a great business for us. We have Colors Kannada, Colors Super, Colors Kannada Cinema, and we have three channels and if you count HD, then we make it to four channels. Hence Kannada is a great market for us. And this is a market where we’ve actually pioneered the best of content. We were the first to bring BIGG BOSS in regional. So we pioneered BIGG BOSS in Kannada for the first time. Subsequently we’ve gone on to do other formats as well, Minute to Minute is one of them. And then we’ve also created our own formats family power, for which we were again fortunate to work with Puneeth Rajkumar.”

“For us every day is election day. Yeah, and viewers are voting with their remotes and they’re voting through their BARC boxes. And our goal is not to win the election, our goal is to give them what they are looking for. So I on behalf of the team am delighted to have this format back with us. We are also delighted to be working with Studio NXT. And we thank our presenting sponsor Santoor.” Said, Kumar.

Commenting on the format, Kumar said, “I think the format is going to come back stronger than ever before. So contestants are just going to watch the show they can also so participate in it. By virtue of our partnership both with Jio and with VOOT they have opportunity to play along win prizes, and be part of the excitement.”
