Bangalore: The Indian Influencer Governing Council (IIGC) marked a major milestone in India’s creator economy with the successful completion of its Third Chapter at Taj Bangalore, uniting over 100 leading voices including influencers, marketing heads, and digital leaders. In a landmark announcement, IIGC declared December 2nd as “World Influencer Day”, a global occasion to honour the contributions of creators across platforms and genres.
The event saw the launch of IIGC Protect, a pioneering initiative in partnership with Trilegal and United We Care x Adayu (Fortis), focused on providing legal literacy and mental wellness resources for influencers. Notable voices such as Nikhil Sachdeva (Partner, Trilegal), Rana Atheya (VP – Business, United We Care), Sachin Baliga (Advisor – Neuromodulation Program, Fortis), and influencer Aneri Thakkar shared perspectives on navigating the pressures of the digital spotlight.
In a bid to create a more structured and ethical ecosystem, IIGC also announced the IIGC Taskforce and released its Code of Standards for Brands, highlighting best practices for responsible collaborations. Industry leaders including Varun Oberoi (Nissin), Jaikishin Chhaproo (ITC Limited), Gaurang Thosani (Royal Sundaram), and Aparajita Mukherjee (DIAGEO) spoke on the importance of transparency, accountability, and impact-driven content.
“Influencers have the power to spark change, ignite conversations that matter, and build something bigger than a brand: a movement,” said Tej Prakash Yadav, BBC Media Action. “Influencing for Good adds depth to social capital, strengthens credibility, and shows the world the human behind the handle.”
Creator Gunjan Taneja (@Gunjanshouts) added, “Being an influencer is not about the number of followers or views, but the impact we are able to create. We need to consider that with our every word, action and recommendation one or several of our followers will buy the product or service with their hard earned money. Which is why it is our responsibility as creators to be cautious of what we say, with maturity and sensibility before we put out content.”
The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony led by Sahil Chopra, Chairman & Founding Member, IIGC, celebrating board members and winners of the Indian Influencer Ratings Weekly Picks. Creators Gunjan Taneja and Thaj were honoured as “Trendsetters,” while emerging voices like Ad.Sum.Twist, Vadiraj Babaladi, Aashika Gowda, Deesha Umesh, Simran Anand, Sneha Shenoy, and Nayanaa Pillai were recognized as “Underdoggs.”
Commenting on the chapter, Sahil Chopra stated, “The influencer ecosystem in India is at a turning point, moving from raw creativity to structured professionalism. With IIGC Protect, the Code of Standards, and now World Influencer Day, we’re laying the foundation for a future where creators are not just content generators, but powerful, responsible voices shaping culture, commerce, and community.”
As the IIGC continues to expand its footprint, the Council reaffirmed its mission to professionalize, empower, and celebrate India’s thriving creator economy.
