New Delhi: Protean eGov Technologies has named banking and digital transformation veteran Ajay Rajan as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective June 1, 2026, as the company looks to strengthen its leadership position in India’s digital public infrastructure ecosystem and expand its enterprise solutions business.
Rajan joins the technology-driven governance solutions provider with more than three decades of experience across banking, fintech, digital transformation and transaction banking. His appointment comes at a time when Protean is seeking to scale its Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) capabilities, expand into international markets and explore new opportunities in artificial intelligence-led digital ecosystems.
Prior to joining Protean, Rajan was part of the senior management team at YES Bank, where he spent over eight years in leadership roles. Most recently, he served as Country Head – Transaction Banking, Government, Multinational & New Economy Business, IBU & Knowledge Units. During his tenure, he oversaw several digital banking and DPI-linked initiatives while managing key business verticals for the bank.
Before his stint at YES Bank, Rajan spent more than two decades at Deutsche Bank, where he served as Global Head of Fintech. Over a 21.5-year career with the global banking institution, he held multiple leadership positions and played a significant role in the bank’s fintech and digital innovation initiatives.
The company said Rajan’s extensive experience across corporate banking, digital banking, fintech and public-sector-focused businesses positions him well to lead Protean through its next phase of growth.
In a social media announcement, the company highlighted its ambition to build on its long-standing role in India’s digital transformation journey under Rajan’s leadership.
The company stated, “For over three decades, Protean has been at the heart of India’s digital progress—designing and enabling trusted infrastructure that connects people, institutions and opportunities at scale. With Mr. Rajan at the helm, we are excited to build on this foundation and pursue a larger canvas of opportunity—strengthening our leadership in Digital Public Infrastructure, growing our enterprise solutions business, scaling our DPI capabilities across international markets, and advancing the role of AI in trusted digital ecosystems.”
Protean, which has played a key role in developing and managing several large-scale digital infrastructure platforms in India, expects Rajan’s leadership to support its growth ambitions while reinforcing its position as a trusted technology partner for governments, enterprises and institutions.
