Mumbai: In a decisive step towards reshaping creative excellence for Indian and global marketers, Monks, the digital-first, data-driven unitary brand of S4 Capital plc, has announced the appointment of Sandipan Bhattacharyya as India Head – Creative.
Renowned for his bold storytelling and culture-shaping work, Bhattacharyya’s entry marks a pivotal moment for Monks India as the agency strengthens its positioning as a next-gen creative-tech partner—fusing data, creativity, and cutting-edge technology to unlock deeper brand impact.
“Monks is redefining the agency model for a new era—where creativity, data and technology come together seamlessly. That convergence is where the most exciting ideas are being born. While most agency networks are reacting to the future of creative tech, Monks has built its business around it,” said Sandipan Bhattacharyya.
“I’m thrilled to be part of a team that’s genuinely future-facing. This is a space where we can stretch creative ambition while solving for real brand and business impact,” he added.
With over two decades of leadership across Saatchi & Saatchi, BBDO, and Grey South Asia (where he served as Chief Creative Officer), Bhattacharyya has led iconic campaigns and won over 120 global and national awards, including Cannes Lions, D&AD, One Show, Clio, Spikes Grand Prix, and APAC Effies. He is also credited with delivering India’s first Entertainment Lions for Music, setting new benchmarks for culture-led creativity.
In his new role at Monks India, Bhattacharyya will oversee the creative direction for a growing portfolio including Amazon, Tata Tea, Bajaj, and other progressive brands. His focus will be on scaling teams, integrating tech and creativity, and building a culture of innovation and craft.
“Sandipan joining us is a game-changing moment,” said Ketan Desai, Managing Director, Monks India. “He brings not just pedigree, but a future-facing mindset. He understands that creativity today must be adaptive, intelligent and deeply connected to business outcomes. Together, we’re building a new creative model that doesn’t separate storytelling from systems thinking.”
To complement Bhattacharyya’s appointment, John Paite will expand his remit as Creative Head – Tech & Innovation, continuing to drive the agency’s AI-led production and innovation work. This dual leadership approach is part of a wider strategic shift positioning Monks India to offer unified creative-tech solutions in a fast-changing media landscape.
“We are thrilled to welcome Sandipan to the Monks family,” said Kenny Griffiths, Executive Vice President, Monks APAC. “His exceptional experience and strategic insight will drive a new era of creative thought leadership across the agency. Together with Ketan and John, Sandipan will play a pivotal role in scaling Monks India to new heights, pushing boundaries, and setting new standards of innovation and excellence.”
With this move, Monks India is doubling down on its mission: reimagining creativity for the next generation of marketers—and raising the bar for what integrated storytelling can achieve in a digital-first world.
