This evening Burger King India released a film on Twitter, talking about love portrayed in a very beautiful way, nothing mushy or garish, plain simple asking its patrons to share with a lonely person.

A very bold move by #BurgerKingIndia to showcase the man sitting outside #McDonald’s outlets.

We sent a few questions to the Brand on the campaign

Burger King Spokesperson said “Burger King’s brand essence is all about self-expression and just being who you are. Valentines’ day is often depicted as a clichéd glossy celebration of love amongst couples and people in love. Our idea, this Valentine’s Day is to provide a platform of self-expression…for not just the couples but for the singles as well. For once, why not celebrate the loners this Valentine’s…and that was the genesis of the campaign”.

We've found the loneliest man in the world. And he's been right in front of us the whole time. Go ahead give him company, take a picture or two, tag @burgerkingindia and we'll give you a free Whopper this Valentine's Day. #LonelyNoMore

Llyod Mathias: Excellent campaign by Burger King taking on McDonalds using Valentines Day. A very smart example of guerrilla marketing trolling your competitor to drive consideration and encourage trials. Also launching the campaign just two days before Valentine’s Day using social media makes for a great move. This campaign will certainly trend heavily on Valentine’s Day with all the photo uploads with the Ronald McDonald- the mascot. Off course will folks queuing up at McDonalds outlet to get a selfie with the McD mascot McDonalds could counter with some smart offer!

Karthik Sreenivasan had a different take on the whole campaign, he says, ‘I’m not a fan of Burger King’s persistent trolling of McD at all. It reminds me of Modi always invoking Nehru and Congress almost as if he doesn’t see himself as someone worth talking about on his own merit and always needs a prop to compare himself with. Similarly, Burger King has been trolling McD across the years many, many times, almost as if they exist only in comparison to MCD, not on their own’. He also gave a few examples of how BurgerKing has trolled McDonald’s.
