In what media reports describe as a rare and strategic leadership transition, IPG Mediabrands India is set to adopt a dual-leadership structure aimed at ensuring continuity and stability ahead of a potential acquisition by global advertising giant Omnicom Group.
As per various media outlets, Shashi Sinha, who has served as the CEO of IPG Mediabrands India since 2012 and is a prominent figure in India’s media and advertising industry, is likely to be elevated to the role of Executive Chairman. Simultaneously, Amardeep Singh, CEO of Interactive Avenues—IPG’s digital agency—is expected to be appointed as the new CEO of IPG Mediabrands India.
Reports suggest that both leaders will jointly steer the organization for the next three years, marking a first-of-its-kind leadership structure in Indian advertising. This move is being interpreted as part of a broader, future-focused strategy to sustain momentum and build resilience during a time of industry consolidation and rapid digital transformation.
No Official Announcement Yet
While IPG Mediabrands has not officially confirmed the changes, media outlets have cited highly placed industry sources as saying the restructuring is intended to align the company with evolving global priorities and potential ownership changes.
Amid speculation regarding Sinha’s retirement, some reports quoted him directly stating, “I’m not going anywhere for three years,” signaling his continued involvement in shaping the agency’s future. He has also reportedly indicated that succession planning was discussed with the company’s global leadership, with a strong preference for promoting talent from within the organization.
Sinha, who founded Lodestar in 1990—India’s first media agency—has played a pivotal role in IPG’s India operations. Under his leadership, the agency has built a robust portfolio that includes Lodestar UM, Initiative, Interactive Avenues, Rapport, Ansible, and Magna Global.
Singh’s Rise Reflects Digital Prioritization
Amardeep Singh’s expected elevation is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the agency’s digital leadership. A co-founder of Interactive Avenues, Singh has overseen a more than 13x expansion of the agency since its acquisition by IPG Mediabrands, establishing it as a top-tier player in India’s digital advertising market.
With a background spanning leadership roles at Mediaturf Worldwide and Rediff.com, Singh began his career at Bennett, Coleman and Co. Ltd. He holds a postgraduate degree in marketing and finance from Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies and a bachelor’s in electronics from St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore.
According to media analysis, the dual-leadership model is expected to leverage the complementary strengths of Sinha’s legacy expertise and Singh’s digital acumen, providing a stable foundation as IPG Mediabrands India navigates a changing industry landscape and a possible transition under Omnicom’s ownership.
